The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has published safety guidelines regarding the proper use of trampolines. As an owner or user of a trampoline, it is important to understand and follow these recommendations at all times to reduce the risk of injury.
Injuries and fatalities can result from:
Colliding with another person while on the trampoline
Landing improperly while jumping or performing stunts
Falling or jumping off the trampoline
Contact with the springs or frame
To help prevent serious injuries such as paralysis, fractures, sprains, and bruises, follow these important safety precautions:
Allow only one person on the trampoline at a time
Do not attempt somersaults. Landing on the head or neck can cause severe injury or paralysis
Always use proper shock-absorbing padding that fully covers springs, hooks, and the frame
Position the trampoline away from structures, trees, fences, and other hazards
Children under 6 years of age should not use full-size trampolines
Do not use ladders that provide unsupervised access for small children
Always supervise children during use
Use a properly installed safety enclosure to help reduce the risk of falls
For additional safety information, visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at www.cpsc.gov or www.saferproducts.gov, or call 800-638-2772.
In addition to general safety guidelines, the following best practices are strongly recommended:
Do not attempt or allow somersaults
Only one user at a time
Always ensure mature, responsible supervision
Not recommended for children under 6 years of age
Regularly inspect equipment and ensure padding is secure
Climb on and off carefully—do not use the trampoline as a springboard
Control your bounce—avoid excessive height
Learn and practice proper jumping techniques
Maintain balance and control at all times
Keep your head upright and eyes focused toward the center
Jump near the center of the mat
Avoid use when tired
Prevent unauthorized or unsupervised use
Keep objects and obstacles away from the trampoline
Do not use under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Follow all manufacturer instructions and guidelines
Seek proper training if performing advanced skills
Do not use in wet, windy, or unsafe weather conditions
Read and understand all instructions before use
